Janine Franklin is the new Project Director in the Education Lab and will be working closely with projects under the new AbbVie gift. Janine, affectionately called Dr. J, is committed to improving educational outcomes for underresourced youth in the city of Chicago. Formerly, she served as the Associate Director of Pipeline Programs at the University of Chicago’s Office of the Provost, overseeing initiatives to train and mentor underrepresented students into academic pathways from the high school to the post-graduate level. She has the distinct honor of being named a 2018 Surge Institute Fellow and a Chicago Scholars Foundation 35 under 35 honoree.
Janine is a proud Badger and alumna of the University of Wisconsin-Madison earning a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Women's Studies. She also holds a Masters of Social Work from the University of Illinois at Chicago and a Doctor of Philosophy from the department of Education Policy at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
